The historic city of Silves

A brief presentation of my city and the place where I work as a tattoo artist.

Silves is one of the most charming cities in the Algarve — a place where past and present intersect in a unique way. The former Moorish capital of southern Portugal, this city is steeped in history, culture and a peaceful atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of coastal areas.

Strolling through Silves is like walking through a history book: the red sandstone castle, the imposing Cathedral, the narrow streets and the view over the Arade River create a setting that captivates any visitor. But Silves is not just about the past — today it is the stage for cultural events, fairs, exhibitions and authentic cuisine.

Whether it’s visiting the Medieval Fair, enjoying an exhibition at the Mascarenhas Gregório Theatre, exploring the Archaeology Museum or simply having a coffee with a view of the city walls, Silves continues to surprise and win over those who pass through here.

Silves is more than a destination — it’s an experience.

Silves is not just an open-air museum. The city hosts an active cultural agenda:

  • The Silves Medieval Fair, in August, transforms the historic center into a true stage of the past.

  • The Mascarenhas Gregório Theater hosts exhibitions, music and local events.

  • The Municipal Archaeology Museum surprises with pieces from the Paleolithic to the Islamic period.

Furthermore, the city's calm atmosphere makes it perfect for enjoying art, taking photographs or simply relaxing with a coffee on a terrace overlooking the city walls.
